The route

The race starts and finishes at Retford Oaks  Academy, DN22 7NJ. The race will start at 10AM.

 

The are 4 water stations on the course, these are located at approximately:

  • 4 miles, Barnby Moor

  • 6 miles, Billy Button Lane & A634 Junction

  • 9 miles, Barnby Moor

  • 11.5 miles, Old London Road.

 

At the top of Old London Road the route turns left onto the only live road on the route, Straight Mile. Runners are asked to use the footpath at this point all the way back to the finish.

Road Closures

The following road closures will apply:

The Retford half-marathon is scheduled to begin at 10am on Sunday, March 10th but roads in and around the town will be closed from 9am onwards.

Several full road closures are planned, with three expected to be closed from 9am until 1.30pm.

During this time, Old London Road will be closed in both directions from the A634 junction on Great North Road through to the A620, which drivers use to travel between Worksop and Retford.

Traffic will still have access from the A1 slip road, but it will be for right turns only onto Old London Road, towards HMP Ranby.

The route from Blyth to Barnby Moor Road on the A634 will also be closed from the junction of the Great North Road at Barnby Moor through to the junction of Graves Moor Lane from 9am until 1.30pm.

A diversion route will be available to Retford and Doncaster via Baulk Lane / Graves Moor Lane or via Blyth Road on the B6045.

Billy Button Lane in Torworth will also be closed from 9am until 1.30pm.

Between 9.50am and 10am, the roundabout outside Retford Oaks Academy will be closed and traffic will be held by the use of stop and go signs.

Lime Tree Avenue, Lime Grove, Hannam’s Yard and the Cemetery access road will also be closed to all traffic 10 minutes prior to the start of the race, restricting access onto Hospital Road.

Right turns from Rectory Road and Queen Street onto Hospital Road and Babworth Road will also be prohibited at the start of the race.

Traffic from Rectory Road and Queens Street will be able to turn left towards Babworth bridge.

These restrictions will be in place until 10.10am.

The A638 Great North Road will be closed from Hallcroft Roundabout through to Billy Button Lane from 10am until 1.30pm.

Nearby residents and businesses will have right-turn-only access onto Great North Road, in the direction of Retford, where there are breaks in 'runner traffic'.

Left turn access for traffic heading southbound will be unaffected.

The point between Hallcroft Roundabout and Randall Way is also expected to be closed for 40 minutes, between 10am and 10.40am.

The runners' course will follow the same route as the 2020 event, beginning at the Retford Oaks Academy.

Runners will then head left onto Babworth Road (A620) and head left at the Hallcroft Roundabout, progressing along Great North Road (A638) beyond Barnby Moor towards Torworth, before turning left onto Billy Button Lane towards the A634.
