Fell Running Report for January

January started off slowly as all the off roadies were suffering with Steve Wathall’s man flu passed on in the Baltic conditions at the Auld Lang Syne.  However Amanda, Charmian and Steve managed to rally enough to take part in a three hour MTB Trail Quest in Sherwood Forest only for A & C to be struck down with tonsillitis the following week.  The Howard clan were out in force at Tigger Tor (10m/1750’) with Charmian bringing up the rear and then Max and Lynda had a back to back weekend running Blakes Heaven (4.5m/1700’) from Lamplugh in Cumbria on Sat before high tailing it back to the Peak district for the Mickledon Straddle (13.8m/1980’) on the Sun.  On the same day Ross and Amanda completed the Kinder Trial, an 11m/2000’ navigation event from Hayfield.  Unfortunately Amanda found a frozen molehill and picked up an injury which has confined her to her bike and Ross to living with the horse until she recovers.

Fell Running Report for December

December’s events started off in new Zealand with Charmian Heaton and Steve Wathall taking part in the Kepler Challenge, a 60km trail race in Fiordland in the South Island. Then Charmian rushed back to Blighty to partner Steve Woodward in a three hour biking orienteering event from Grindleford in the Peak District.  Next came a solo run by Steve Woodward at the Stoop, a six mile fell run in Bronte country just before Christmas, and then New Years Eve saw eight runners braving minus six temperatures on the start line from the same venue at the Auld Lang Syne.  Between Christmas and New Year the Howard’s clan did a four mile run from Ambleside with Amanda being first vet lady. To start the New Year three quarters of the Howard clan, Ross, Max and Lynda did the eight mile Ovenden race from Ogden water near Halifax on 3rd January.
